When your AC stops doing its job, it's rarely just one thing. Most of the time, the system has been struggling for a while before it completely gives out. The unit runs, the thermostat says it's on, but the house just won't cool down. That's usually a sign something inside needs attention - and the sooner you catch it, the better.
Two of the most common culprits we find inside outdoor condenser units are a worn contactor and a failing run capacitor. The contactor is basically the switch that tells the compressor and fan motor to kick on. The capacitor gives the motors the jolt they need to start up. When either one starts going bad, you get exactly what most people describe - the system runs but doesn't really cool, or it struggles to start at all.
These are small parts, but they do a big job. A bad capacitor puts extra strain on the compressor every single time the system tries to start. Over time, that kills the compressor - which is a much more expensive fix. Catching it early at the component level is almost always the smarter call.
We work on all types of systems across NYC and New Jersey - from wall-mounted condensers to full central air setups with evaporator coils and air handlers. Whether it's a repair, a tune-up, or a full new install, we approach every job the same way: find the actual problem and fix it right the first time. No guesswork, no unnecessary upsells.
